31 Children from SA Children’s Home attended their first live rugby match between DHL Western Province and the MTN Lions from Johannesburg at Newlands Stadium on Friday 19 August 2011

Today, children are under threat as never before. It is the children who suffer the effects of divorce, family break-up, physical and sexual abuse, and the lack of a loving family background. Children need to grow up in a secure, loving environment and it is these needs that the oldest welfare organization the SA Children’s Home has and more than 200 years later still seeks to provide.

At present there are 44 children at the Children’s Home between the ages of 6 and 18 years. The children are placed at the Home by the Children’s Court for an initial period of two years, and often come from extreme poverty where the adult caregivers are almost always unemployed and/or addicted to drugs and alcohol and/or sexual and physical abuse occur. Without help, these children will struggle to cope with their traumatic circumstances, but with our help they have the tools and the chance at a bright future.

All children attend school and go to 13 different schools in and around Cape Town ranging from mainstream to special needs education. Our Mission is to care for, nurture and develop children in need in order for them to become balanced, well-adapted and independent adults. We provide a loving, happy and secure home for boys and girls of all ages and races.

We would like to thank DHL for providing our kids with a fun filled evening at DHL Newlands. The kids thoroughly enjoyed every moment as this was their first time they have attended a live rugby match.
