Following the Sharks victory over the Vodacom Blue Bulls in the first Absa Currie Cup semifinal, Saturday’s other semi clash between Vodacom WP and Vodacom Free State Cheetahs was always going to be the last game of the season at Newlands.
Club Newlands ensured that the day started in an unforgettable style in the Castle Lawns. Whilst the main course was coming up later in the day on the pitch, outside the stadium fans were kept entertained by the huge screen that was erected in the Lawns. On what turned out to be a beautiful day in the Mother City, Province fans were able to watch who their team would face in the final with other supporters and in a beautiful surroundings. Packed to capacity, the Lawns vibe was electric and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
The game in Durban was not the only highlight for those who joined Club Newlands in the Castle Lawns. With the bar offering wide variety of drinks, Spur and Old Fashioned Fish and Chips selling their delicious food, Heart 104.9FM playing the best music all day and Spur entertaining the young ones in their kids zone, there was plenty to keep fans entertained throughout the pre-match build up.
Now with the season over, all we can do is reflect on an incredible year for the Castle Lawns where we saw record crowds throughout 2010. We would like to thank our sponsors Castle Lager, Powerade, Spur, Nashua Mobile and Old Fashion Fish and Chips and of course all the fans who joined us in making the Castle Lawns the best place to be before every game at Newlands. We look forward to seeing you again when next year when the brand new Super Rugby tournament kicks off!
