Vodacom Western Province have a good chance of extending their lead at the top of the Absa Currie Cup points' table when they tackle the Pumas at Newlands on Friday evening, but coach Allister Coetzee takes nothing for granted.

Vodacom Western Province have a good chance of extending their lead at the top of the Absa Currie Cup points' table when they tackle the Pumas at Newlands on Friday evening, Coetzee showed the visitors a lot of respect when he spoke about the clash earlier this week. And he is acutely aware of the damage the big and physical pack of forwards could cause.

"They're a well coached side with a big physical pack of forwards. It's not easy to break their defence and they have great ball carriers as well. We respect any opposition in the Currie Cup.

"This Pumas side will stay in the competition for a long time. They were highly competitive against the Bulls and even led the Sharks at halftime."

Captain and lock Anton van Zyl agreed with his coach, saying the Pumas definitely focus a lot on their pack and getting momentum with their pack. "They've got big heavy forwards and well organised set pieces that provides them good front foot ball and they've shown that they can score from mauls and out wide."

Coetzee pointed out that the Pumas have experienced players in Hannes Franklin and Jacques Coetzee who played Super 14 and said wing Allister Kettledas has been the top try-scorer in the First Division.

"So there's quality in the side. We know it's going to be a tough assignment this weekend.

"Elgar watts scored three tries against the Leopards last week and whenever these teams play WP the guys come out to prove a point. But we've trained well and done our homework and I'm confident in our preparation."
