It was joy for the Vodacom Western Province under-21 side on Saturday, but heartache for their under-19 side against the Leopards at Newlands in their respective Absa national competition matches.
Vodacom WP under-21 were way too strong for the visitors from Potchefstroom, winning 59-17 after enjoying a healthy 35-10 lead at halftime.
Danie Poolman and JJ Engelbrecht helped themselves to a hat-trick of tries.
WP's other tries were scored by Louis Schreuder, Wimpie van der Walt and Martin du Toit. Flyhalf Gary van Aswegen converted 4 tries and added 2 penalties.
For the Leopards Louis Fouche and SP Marais scored tries. Fouche converted both and added a penalty.
The Leopards under-19s were responsible for the shock of the season in this competition by beating WP 37-36 in a thriller on Saturday.
The Leopards led 20-17 at halftime. It was the Leopards inside centre Jacobus Lourens who broke WP hearts and robbed them of their unbeaten record when he slotted a penalty in the last minute of the game.
Before this game, WP won six matches on the trot. Lourens contributed 17 points to his team's total.
For WP Nizaam Carr, Cameron Lindsay, Bradley Mentoor, Clearance Khumalo, Stephan Schoeman. Ulrich Beyers converted four and added a penalty.
