The game was a tight affair for most of the first half with flyhalves Demitri Catrakilis and Elton Jantjies swapping penalties. However tries by Jaco Taute and Michael Killian on either side of half time gave the hosts a 14-point lead.

DHL WP once again showed their character and fought back late in the second half. Their improved play was eventually rewarded when Juan de Jongh went over for Province’s only try after sustained pressure from the visitors.

Schalk Burger’s men kept pushing for the win, but time was not on their side and the Golden Lions held out for victory.
