Vodacom Western Province built on their good start to the national under-21 Absa competition by trouncing the Lions 33-8 at Newlands on Saturday.

This was Rassie Erasmus' side's second win in two starts after they have beaten their counterparts of the Free State last week.

Province led 16-5 at halftime and were just too good for the Johannesburg-based side. They played some enterprising rugby and scored three tries. Flyhalf Gary van Aswegen was on song with his kicking and contributed 18 points via 4 penalties and 3 conversions.

Scorers:

Vodacom WP under-21 33 (16): Tries: JJ Engelbrecht, JP Smith, Danie Poolman; Conversions: Gary van Aswegen (3). Penalties: Van Aswegen (4).

Lions under-21 8 (5): Try: Divan Ferguson. Penalty: Dewald Nel.

The Vodacom Western Province under-19 side proved much too powerful for their counterparts of the Lions in the first game of the day, winning 45-7 in a one-sided affair.

The home side scored 7 tries and never looked in trouble of losing this one.

Vodacom WP under-19 45 (31): Tries: Kobus Porter, Bradley Fortuin (2), William van Wyk, Clearance Khumalo, Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth. Conversions: Ulrich Beyers (5).
